Daniel D'Ottavio

Written by: John Buffini

Daniel D'Ottavio was born and raised in the foothills of California's Sierra Nevada mountains. Already a gifted athlete, it was an early career in modeling that introduced him to the creative world of fashion. It wasn't until he was given his late grandfather's camera that he realized his calling was to be on the other end of the lens. Soon thereafter Daniel began ascending the ladder in the world of photography; working with models and designers from all over the world.

With an inherent ability to create an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere in which to work, Daniel's special talent is in capturing the personality and inner qualities of each individual he photographs. His artist's eye for light, creativity and passion for perfection results in photographs that tell a unique story. Daniel's innovative and fresh approach – cutting edge, shocking, traditional, or playful – allows him to work successfully with clients from all avenues of life.

Daniel D'Ottavio moved to New York City in 2005, after living and working in Milan, Italy. His private studio is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

I hired Daniel to take some photos for my website. Simply put: he’s fantastic. On top of being an absolute artist he made me feel so comfortable. I’ve only had professional photos taken once before and feel a little unsure of myself, and frankly a little awkward, in front of a camera. Daniel not only eased my concerns but was candid about what shots, outfits, and looks worked for me and which did not.

We shot for a while and I never felt rushed. He was thoughtful about the time of our shoot and planned each shot perfectly with the changing light of the afternoon.

After we shot he was quick to send the unedited images and quick to edit my selections.

I cannot say enough good things about working with Daniel. His work speaks for itself and hopefully these words help bring to life his style and approach. Highly recommend!
